It was designed to address the community’s poor health status as well as to promote proper nutrition and a healthier lifestyle among the city’s low-income families. In the past, residents of the largely Latino city struggled to find affordable, healthy food which led to alarmingly high overweight and obesity rates. Worth the trip. The Brownsville Farmers’ Market is a project by the Brownsville Wellness Coalition (BWC), a Texas not-for-profit corporation, and created to provide the community with a source for “ fresh, affordable, locally grown produce”. The museum and playground are next to a waterway, so it's a pretty site. Outside is a nice playground, so we took them there afterwards. We spent two hours and the girls were reluctant to leave. There's a restaurant, a dentist's office, a doctor's office, a car to drive, a tractor to sit on, a ship to fish from, a construction site, a weather studio and an art studio, among others. The girl's favorite was the Super Market where they shopped for groceries and the little house. The day we went, we had the place to ourselves which is another bonus. The museum is in a small town so it has a little less than the children's museum in San Antonio, but it's a very new facility and everything is clean. My daughters love children's museum so we decided to try this one. I used the Garmin to find the Children's Museum in Brownsville which is about a 30 minute drive. We needed something for our two children (5 and 2) to do, since the beach was out. We took a trip to South Padre in late April and ran into an unexpectably cold day. Also there is a beautiful lake and park next to it, Camille's playhouse (performing theater), Sam's Pool (large swimming pool & children's sprinkler pad) and the Glady's Porter Zoo. I highly recommend taking your kids here. Play areas available at the museum include a doctor's office, dentist's office, kitchen & restaurant, farmhouse, boat, Target reading area, Channel 5 weather station (children get to see themselves on screen giving the weather), construction area, and the HEB grocery store where kids can pretend to shop. The museum is inside a park area that does have parking, limited but you may want to check for space there first to avoid a long walk. Only advice I could give is that their webpage tells you to park at the zoo parking lot which means that you end up walking about 5 blocks to get to the museum. They were doing face painting while we were there. They also have different activities at no extra charge. I had a group of 7 kids and all were well entertained for the 3 hrs. Not as big as the one in SA but still has plenty for the kids to do. Cost is $6 per person ($1 off coupon per pair of adult & child is available on their webpage). I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is very nice, as well as the area that it is in. She picked the place because she had been to the one in San Antonio however, that would be impossible since we're a 6 hr. However, you do get the whole museum for yourself!Īs part of my daughter's birthday celebration she (along w/a group of friends) wanted to go to the Children's Museum. But for $500 for two hours, I think I would reconsider. The museum does close completely for the party so only your guests can enjoy the who museum and games. We happened to get their late so I had less than two hours to celebrate. It was for only two hours and that can go very fast. I had a birthday party here and enjoyed it very much however I have only one complaint. You can have birthday parties here as well. Yearly pass is recommended if you plan to go often and also provides access to other events for free. The facility does have a yearly pass or pay as you go. The museum displays different things throughout the year. As you enter, you will have a large gift shop on the right and in the front you will have a museum. The place is very clean and temperature is cool. It has many activities for all ages, 2 and up. It is very educative as they have so many role playing areas so the children can be doctors, shopping for groceries, be a broadcaster, etc. I took my children here when they were 5 and 6 years old and they can stay busy for hours here.
